LGN Russell Square 1km Loop

Russell Sqaure water fountain evokes powerful imagery of energy giving sustanance and life.....

About as central London as you can get, the Russell Square LGN 1km loop provides a quick endorphin 1km fix for those not wanting to go too far from the office
-
LGN 1km loops have been located and measured at several key points around London for use primarily by LGN Run Clubs http://www.lgnwellbeing.com/

-

These LGN 1km loops serve several key purposes:

  1. Provide comparable LGN standard course for all our Run Clubs

  2. Via monthly time trial assist with tangible fitness progress

  3. Offer guide to tempo for people planning fun runs or PB races

  4. Building confidence for those aiming for initial 5km or 10km

  5. Help fan the flames of Inter LGN Run Club banter

We at LGN embrace technology with a cuddly bear lost & found like grip, and indeed for identifying our LGN 1km loops we used internet mapping to find best routes with same start / finish area, however when it came to accurate measurement we laughed in the face of GPS and used trusted measuring techniques for inch perfect accuracy, thus while you will have a route map to provide, rest easy knowing we walked every single 1km loop with a manual measuring wheel to make sure each one LGN 1km loop is indeed exactly 1km.

Have two measuring wheels looked more happy doing what they were born to do?
-
For those wanting to know where Russell Sqaure is and where the LGn 1km loop starts and finishes please click on mapping link below.
http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-kingdom/-london/192123919377443324

But for those who want to know exact start & finish points please see below for LGN pictorial tour.

Start is North East entrance closest to Russell Square tube station and start line if from leg of Russell Square information sign as you run anti clock-wise.

The LGN 1km loop essentially hugs the internal outer path around Russell Square, this is 545 metres around, and thus 1km requires almost 2 loops

Measurement proof, Russell Square is 545 metres around outer path

Head straight down first long straight and get ready to go right around flower beds

And here are the flower beds, you take the longer righ hand fork route around

Keep going stright following path around outer edge and bearing left at end

Turn again left again around outside path

Keep going straight to original starting point, from start point here you need to do 95% of loop again finishing on same final straight as shown above, just past park bench on right

Next to park bench you will see an X marks the finishing spot - 1km in the bag!

Finish line it in all its glory.

In summary, Russell Square outer path loop is 545 metres long, thus LGN 1km loop is 90m shy of 2 complete loops.

If you want a quieter and local single loop 1km, you are best of using the LGN Regents Park 1km loop - only 10 mins light jog away, please check LGN May 2009 blog for details - http://lgnevents.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
-
So lets lace up and use the loop to either join us with our monthly LGN time trials, or perhaps use it for rep session, do five and get a 5km time or perhaps as a guide to tempo for an upcoming race.

LGN Canary Wharf 1km Loop

Canary Wharf - home to London's financial power brokering hub, sharp suits, sharper minds and....

.....sheep!
-
Indeed a warm welcome to LGN's Canary Wharf 1km loop and probbaly one of London's most lovely & juxtaposed green spaces - Mudchute Park, only 5mins jog from E14

As per the Canary Wharf need for accurate figures, we at LGN embrace technology with a cuddly bear lost & found like grip, and indeed for identifying our LGN 1km loops we used internet mapping to find best routes with same start / finish area, however when it came to accurate measurement we laughed in the face of GPS and used trusted measuring techniques for inch perfect accuracy, thus while you will have a route map to provide, rest easy knowing we walked every single 1km loop with a manual measuring wheel to make sure each one LGN 1km loop is indeed exactly 1km.

GPS technolgy is good, but our measuring wheels seem to afford us a more craftman like zeal - and just look at their pretty colours

To gain a good over view idea of where Mudchute park is and where our loop goes please click on mapping link below.

But for a full LGN pictorial overview, please see below:

Only 5 mins Jog from Canary Wharf, access park up these stairs from East Ferry Road

The LGN 1km loop then starts at end of tarmac path on other side of pedestrian gates

And this is the start get gate in question, with white marking on bottom left post

Start is from other side of the gate and here is an attempted arty photograph to illustrate first 1oo yards

After 200 - 300 yards, take the left fork

Go through open gate

Head down beautiful path, taking time to admire wild flowers on your left and blackberries on your right

Keep going straight and eventually you will come across marking for halfway point

At end of path get ready to bear hard left and hopefully enjoy support from lone bench seated civilian

You will approach Mudchute Park farm, soak up the countryside aroma and follow path bearing right

We at LGN are aware that fiscal trading can be described as a 'Bull Market' and thus would like to think someone appreciated our photograhic humour laced efforts...

Keep on path and just keep striding out, not far to go now

Lovely fast and smooth tarmac to find your rhythm

As path ends turn sharp left (if you end up in supermarekt car park, you have not turned left in time!)

As you trun left, you will be faced with a gate that requires navigating a quick shimmy

And then it is 200 - 300 yards remaining with sweet memories of school cross country

Green & fast - beautiful, with finishing line fast approaching

Path from stairs you entered park through is your finish point
If in doubt look for your 2nd gate post with white marking
And yes we too were amazed that the route to end on path is exactly 1000m aka 1km!

So lets lace up and use the loop to either join us with our monthly LGN time trials, or perhaps use it for rep session, do five and get a 5km time or perhaps as a guide to tempo for an upcoming race.

The LGN Imperial War Musuem 1km loop is held on museum ground in a small park known as the Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park which is relatively small but great for encouraging other LGN Run Club runners and building a lush lactic atmosphere.
-
At only 447 metres around the green perimeter, the LGN 1km loop requires two laps with and extra 116 metres to the finishing line.

447 metres in distance, get ready for 2 lap 1km joy

Welcome to the LGN 1km start and indeed the Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park, the start line is where the man in the red jumpers path intersects junction and is marked by white line

There is the white 'start line'

This should be your view from the official start after only a few seconds of running, keeping to the tarmac, bear right after picnic area.

Run past disabled parking bays on your right and get ready for left turn on path

as you turn left you will have the side of the musuem on your right, run all the way down the end of the path and get ready for left turn at the bottom.

With musuem on your right, follow arrow and keep running!

as you turn left you will presented by brick wall on your right, run along its length and then geat ready to go very mildly 'off road'

Well... we did say mildly off road, follow this path to its end and you will have comepleted one of two required laps.

After two laps of course you then need to finish 116 metres further along from your start point, which is by the third disabled parking bay, handily marked by white paint as above.

So lets lace up and use the loop to either join us with our monthly time trials, or perhaps use it for rep session, do five and get a 5km time or perhaps as a guide to tempo for an upcoming race.

LGN Regents Park 1km Loop

Once a private hunting ground for Henry 8th and now open to you for your very own royal LGN 1km romp, the Royal Parks 'Jewel in the Crown' is indeed a tad special

Primrose Hill is a mere 5 minute jog from our LGN 1km loop, how about warming down with a view to explaining the benefits of training at lactic threshold to Sienna and chums?

Regents Park theatre is located only only inches from your own LGN 1km loop theatre of dreams

LGN 1km loops have been located and measured at several key points around London for use primarily by LGN Run Clubs http://www.lgnwellbeing.com/

These LGN 1km loops serve several key purposes:

  3. Offer guide to tempo for people planning fun runs or PB races
  4. Building confidence for those aiming for initial 5km or 10km
  5. Help fan the flames of Inter LGN Run Club banter

Let us assure you we at LGN take measuring very seriously, oh yes

While we at LGN embrace technology with a cuddly bear lost & found like grip, and indeed for identifying our LGN 1km loops we used internet mapping to find best routes with same start / finish area, however when it came to accurate measurement we laughed in the face of GPS and used trusted measuring techniques for inch perfect accuracy, thus while you will have a route map to provide, rest easy knowing we walked every single 1km loop with a manual measuring wheel to make sure each one LGN 1km loop is indeed exactly 1km.

Each LGN 1km loop is measure slowly and accurately by Sports Science qualified craftsman

The Regents Park 1km loop is a beautiful single loop around the Inner Circle whoch sits in the middle of the park and is a mere 20 metres shy of 1,000m aka 1km.

If you would like map directions and simple instructions please click this mapping link:

However, if you would like a more detailed pictorial guide to route and advised start & finish points just scroll down below.

We started our loop by the entrance gates opposite Chester Road and just to the left by the below the sign.

The 1km starting point sign with white painted line

The white painted line represents yoru strt point as you launch yourself anti-clockwise

Keeping railings on your left, you start off on very slight downhill

After nearly 500m you will pass the Park Cafe on your left - your latte awaits..

As you crest the slight hill, you will pass the bigger gates opposite York Bridge

As the lactic increases so does the hedge height on your left - only 100m to go

At the gates you started from, go 20m past your start line and the furthest gate entrance is your finish point - hurrah.
We hope you can either join us with our monthly time trials or perhaps use it for a solo rep session, do five and get a 5km time or perhaps as even a guide to tempo for an upcoming race.
