LGN Imperial War Museum 1km Loop

Imperial War Museum provides an iconic back drop to this LGN 1km loop
-
LGN 1km loops have been located and measured at several key points around London for use primarily by LGN Run Clubs http://www.lgnwellbeing.com/
-
These LGN 1km loops serve several key purposes:
  1. Provide comparable LGN standard course for all our Run Clubs
  2. Via monthly time trial assist with tangible fitness progress
  3. Offer guide to tempo for people planning fun runs or PB races
  4. Building confidence for those aiming for initial 5km or 10km
  5. Help fan the flames of Inter LGN Run Club banter
and last lap bells don't get more symbolic than this memorial work of art
-
While we at LGN embrace technology with a cuddly bear lost & found like grip, and indeed for identifying our LGN 1km loops we used internet mapping to find best routes with same start / finish area, however when it came to accurate measurement we laughed in the face of GPS and used trusted measuring techniques for inch perfect accuracy, thus while you will have a route map to provide, rest easy knowing we walked every single 1km loop with a manual measuring wheel to make sure each one LGN 1km loop is indeed exactly 1km.
-
-
The LGN Imperial War Musuem 1km loop is held on museum ground in a small park known as the Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park which is relatively small but great for encouraging other LGN Run Club runners and building a lush lactic atmosphere.
-
At only 447 metres around the green perimeter, the LGN 1km loop requires two laps with and extra 116 metres to the finishing line.
-
To find a the location and gain a rough idea of LGN loop please click on mapping facility below:

447 metres in distance, get ready for 2 lap 1km joy

Welcome to the LGN 1km start and indeed the Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park, the start line is where the man in the red jumpers path intersects junction and is marked by white line

There is the white 'start line'

This should be your view from the official start after only a few seconds of running, keeping to the tarmac, bear right after picnic area.

Run past disabled parking bays on your right and get ready for left turn on path

as you turn left you will have the side of the musuem on your right, run all the way down the end of the path and get ready for left turn at the bottom.

With musuem on your right, follow arrow and keep running!

as you turn left you will presented by brick wall on your right, run along its length and then geat ready to go very mildly 'off road'

Well... we did say mildly off road, follow this path to its end and you will have comepleted one of two required laps.

After two laps of course you then need to finish 116 metres further along from your start point, which is by the third disabled parking bay, handily marked by white paint as above.

So lets lace up and use the loop to either join us with our monthly time trials, or perhaps use it for rep session, do five and get a 5km time or perhaps as a guide to tempo for an upcoming race.

Primrose Hill is a mere 5 minute jog from our LGN 1km loop, how about warming down with a view to explaining the benefits of training at lactic threshold to Sienna and chums?

Regents Park theatre is located only only inches from your own LGN 1km loop theatre of dreams

Let us assure you we at LGN take measuring very seriously, oh yes

While we at LGN embrace technology with a cuddly bear lost & found like grip, and indeed for identifying our LGN 1km loops we used internet mapping to find best routes with same start / finish area, however when it came to accurate measurement we laughed in the face of GPS and used trusted measuring techniques for inch perfect accuracy, thus while you will have a route map to provide, rest easy knowing we walked every single 1km loop with a manual measuring wheel to make sure each one LGN 1km loop is indeed exactly 1km.

Each LGN 1km loop is measure slowly and accurately by Sports Science qualified craftsman

The Regents Park 1km loop is a beautiful single loop around the Inner Circle whoch sits in the middle of the park and is a mere 20 metres shy of 1,000m aka 1km.

If you would like map directions and simple instructions please click this mapping link:

However, if you would like a more detailed pictorial guide to route and advised start & finish points just scroll down below.

We started our loop by the entrance gates opposite Chester Road and just to the left by the below the sign.

The 1km starting point sign with white painted line

The white painted line represents yoru strt point as you launch yourself anti-clockwise

Keeping railings on your left, you start off on very slight downhill

After nearly 500m you will pass the Park Cafe on your left - your latte awaits..

As you crest the slight hill, you will pass the bigger gates opposite York Bridge

As the lactic increases so does the hedge height on your left - only 100m to go

At the gates you started from, go 20m past your start line and the furthest gate entrance is your finish point - hurrah.
We hope you can either join us with our monthly time trials or perhaps use it for a solo rep session, do five and get a 5km time or perhaps as even a guide to tempo for an upcoming race.

LGN Green Park 1km Loop

What better place to test your physical attributes than a royal park that was the London dueling site up to the late 17th century when King Charles numero dos added 40 acres for his own walking constitution - hence Constitution Hill

17th Green Park was enjoyed by landed gentry in heavy imported cotton, lace and latterly tweed, and we are lead to believe that no moisture wicking Dri Fit material was readily available

'But how accurately measured are these LGN 1km loops?' we hear you say...

LGN 1km measuring precision, the passion is just infectious

The LGN Green Park 1km is a very simple loop but is not for the Run Club faint hearted, as its hill will test physical and mental resolve, if you want the easy flat & quick option pop over to our Hyde Park 1km loop instead...

To gain a good overview idea of Green Park course please click on mapping link below:

But to get a guided pictorial & detailed tour of the LGN loop please see below.

Lamp post in middle of Park acts as both start and finish point, with pathway intersection possibly symbolising the cross roads of your fitness?

Luckily someone had already marked the start point with a dash of eco friendly white paint at the base of the lamp post.

Your view as you consider the beginning of your LGN 1km loop, the pathway ahead quickly leads to only hill on the course, hang on to your hat & get ready to get inside the hurt box.

Keep going straight and the summit is now nearly in sight

Almost at the top, keep going straight & don't be tempted by the delights of the left hand path

Bearing left at the top of the hill

Now you start to feel the surge in thigh bound delight as gravity goes from being foe to friend on the delightful descent

Now feel your running rhythm pick up as you run down along side Constitution Hill

As you approach Buckingham Palace bear left and get ready for final 250m dash for the line

Turning left at the big tree on the corner, your finishing line awaits

Finish line is in middle of path intersection

With 'X' opposite the post marking the exact 1km point

So lets lace up and use the loop to either join us with our monthly time trials, or perhaps use it for rep session, do five and get a 5km time or perhaps as a guide to tempo for an upcoming race.

Running straight down cycle path, lovely flat and quick, but get ready to negotiate a disco shimmy through park gates
And there are the disco shimmy park gates, wriggle yourself through and try to re-establish initial momentum

At end of your path you will see flower beds on your right, this is your cue to bear right, preparing for 2nd right turn in 50m and return leg, how much left in the tank...?

Again, yet more beautiful flat n fast paths greet you and with the River on your left urging you on, can you find that extra gear to push on for a PB effort?

Final 200 - 300m now, open playing field now visible on your right, Craven Cottage football club in front, the finish awaits you, just one final right hand turn

Last 50m as you complete your turn, choice of left or right of tree, keep those shoulders relaxed..

'X' marks the spot and the finish, well done, you are now only a few feet from where you started and hopefully your LGN trainer is smiling while looking down your new improved 1km time
